New for 2020

Still Pickin’ performances are on hiatus for the winter while Jim works on his Florida tan, but that doesn’t mean we’re not up to something.  We’re excited to announce that we’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on our new CD, which will feature a nice blend of old favorites alongside our own original tunes.

Along with our new CD, we also have awesome new T-shirts in the works.  We suggest purchasing one of these T’s for every ol’ picker in the family.  Both CDs and T-shirts will be available at our spring performances.  Our first public performance of the year is currently scheduled for early June at Nick-A-Nee’s in Providence, RI. Check back for calendar updates.

We are taking bookings now for 2020, with popular dates filling up fast.  So if you are thinking of hiring us for your event, you might want to act quickly to get ahold of Jim at or (860) 933-3147.

Blaze Your Trail for Good Times at the Winchester Cafe

Still Pickin’ recently had the privilege of playing for an enthusiastic Father’s Day crowd at the Winchester Cafe in beautiful Portland, CT.   This little gem is located on the Portland-Cobalt Road (Route 66) just outside of Middletown.

Entering The Winchester was like entering an old western saloon.  Steer horns, old wagon parts, pictures of the old west, and even a prairie owl and jackalope, adorn the walls.  We especially loved the cowboy bar stools complete with built-in six shooters. And we were not the only ones there wearing cowboy boots and hats!  We could not have felt more at home.

The best part?  We’re headed back this weekend (7/14/19 4-7pm) to put on another Sunday afternoon show.  Boy, oh boy, are we all fired up for it!

Nothing like cold libations, great chow, and some good old country bluegrass music on a lazy summer Sunday afternoon.  Herd up the family and head on down.  It’s gonna be a real hootenanny!

Here’s a couple of short video clips to wet your whistle…

Looking Back, Looking Forward

It’s the end of January in Connecticut and so far, it’s been a fairly typical winter here. We’ve had our share of ice and snow, of bitter winds and subzero temperatures. But not Jim, no sirree. Each and every year, with his Thanksgiving meal still digesting, Jim packs up and abandons the cold north in favor of pina coladas by the pool in Florida. Doesn’t like the cold, he says. Doesn’t like to shovel snow.

In the meantime, the rest of the band counts the months, weeks and days until Jim’s long-awaited spring return. Sure, we each have our own winter projects and collaborations to keep us going, but there really is no music quite like Still Pickin’ music, and we are all looking forward to performing together once again throughout the spring and summer of 2019 (Scheduled events coming soon to the Calendar page).

Let this short compilation video of our performance at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Hebron, CT (August 10, 2018) be a reminder that warmer is not always better. It was a hot day. Really, really hot. Drippy foreheads, sweaty fingers, sweaty boots hot. In spite of the weather, we had a great time at Podunk, and hope Bluegrass lovers everywhere will make it out to the new site in Goshen, CT for Podunk 2019.

Hurry home, Jim. The weather is fine, wish you were here.
